13 members of Whakatane Haidong Gumdo proudly represented Team New Zealand at the 2021 World Mulimpia between July 23rd 25th.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was held online. Club members trained hard and submitted videos of there skills. The videos was then judged by a panel of judges.
There were nearly 2,00 athletes competing across the different Mulimpia Martial Arts. New Zealand had three competers come away with medals. Two where from Whakatane Haidong Gumdo.

Junior Belt, Tom Alton-Hermiston won Bronze in his age group for his individual gumbup (patterns).

Senior belt, James Clark, won Gold in his age group for individual gumbup. This was New Zealand’s first ever gold medal for gumbup at a World Mulimpia.

Congratulations to all Team New Zealand members! What an awesome achievement. And of course, HUGE congratulations to our local medallist’s, Tom and James.
