Want to know how our club created a completely new Haidong Gumdo routine in 40 minutes? Keep reading to find out step by step how your club can do it! . Step 1) Instructor performed a sword draw and instructed class to mirror. . Step 2) First student performed sword draw and added one movement and instructed class to mirror. . Step 3) Continued with each student instructing class to execute pattern and added one new movement at the end. We had 6 people in class, so we cycled through twice for a total of 12 movements. . Step 4) Practiced new pattern all together a few times until every member performed correctly. . Step 5) Face the back wall and practice pattern until all members perform correctly. Change in direction focuses the students to remember the movements and not just in relation to their surroundings. . Step 6) Face side wall and practice until all members perform correctly. . Step 7) Face last wall and practice until all members perform correctly. . Step 8) Spread all students out so there is 1 or 2 facing each direction. Practice until all members perform correctly. . Step 9) Decrease the distance between students until you get as close as possible. If two students accidentally hit each other, burpees (this only happened once!) . Great to get back to training! Our numbers were small today, with many club members organising their lives to adjust to “Level 2” in New Zealand. The club was greeted with enthusiasm at our usual weekend, outdoor training spot with many locals walking by and waving excitedly, some even stopping to watch. One man stopped to say “Welcome back, we’ve missed you.” We missed you, too! And most importantly we missed training together as a club. . . . The clubs first official training back will take place on Tuesday night at the Ohope Hall from 6-7pm. As per usual, new members are always welcome, the first two weeks of training are free. We will have contact tracing methods in place and can easily maintain social distancing while we train. Join us for Thursday Night Fight Nights! . Tonight we tried a new drill out. . One person defending in walking stance, with the second person preparing to attack in horizontal ready stance. The attacking person cuts with the goal to hit the defenders sword. . If they miss, they get hit. If they hit the sword, they attack the defenders head. .
